What a seriously long and very cohesive, yet meaningful title by the country-pop princess or darling, Taylor Swift. It's the time again, and I know I haven't been doing reviews for a long time, so bare with me for 2 months and I will be back to business. I will be doing a couple of reviews, so let's start things off with this piece of music.
As always, the lyric video can be seen, here. A little bit of nuggets before I move on, WE ARE NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER (man, is that name tough or long?), is actually about Taylor's old boyfriend or ex-boyfriend and about their relationship. To be honest, I know people are criticising the way that she writes her lyrics on this and the way she sings it out - but hey - it's her music, she does what she wants with it. No Avril Lavigne comparison, I'm just saying that she has matured and one does not simply stay in a genre long enough to become an empire while you're at it. Simple enough, change is necessary and important. To the song, I'm not gonna' repeat the title because of it's superb length and letters, it seriously doesn't compare to her older hits, I have to agree. Still, it has that love-hate vibe and what I really, really, really loved about the song was how Taylor connected with the listeners, in other words, audience. She puts in little snippets of her own voice and that is something that is gone in music today and by virtually lenient, is very cool and sweet. Let's not forget she also does it in the bridge, and I mean she was nominated Entertainer of the Year, so, why not? The lyrics I have to say, are quite astounding. I mean, to be honest, we all know she is one of the better writers of the country genre and she proves it once again. Speak Now was a great album, and I've heard some critics already having high hopes of this one. The song starts off with simple guitars, drums and Taylor's voice sinking in, which goes: 'I remember when we broke up / First time / Saying "this is it, I've had enough", cause' like / We haven't seen each other in a month / When you, said that you needed space - What?' When Taylor adds in the 'what?' part, it almost felt as if she was already having fun at the same time addressing what the song was about. Now although I have to say it was cheesy in a few parts, the overall flourish was cherishable and it was pretty catchy on the chorus. RATINGS: (Before I go on, I have renewed the system once more, and I will have to drop a little more, so, bare with me.) ORIGINALITY: 9/10 - Catchy, fun and sweet as usual, Taylor displays wealth in depth with this song. SOUND: 8/10 - Always with the acoustic, gets me every single time. LYRICS: 9/10 - The lyrics are well written, well composed and this is one of those songs which I feel connected to, and that is something seriously lacking in today's songs. Guaranteed. OVERALL RATINGS: 26/30 - Taylor Swift scores with another hit single - I can feel it. With that, I must say WE ARE NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER is awesome and I will be Playing It For Days. Have fun!
