This is probably one of the songs that I would love to review as it is one of my best loved bands of all-time: Three Days Grace. Let's welcome them back to the stage with their new album, Transit Of Venus, coming out this year. With that, the lead single will be called CHALK OUTLINE.
Lyrics video as always, click here. I always felt that Three Days Grace, were one of the most underrated bands of all-time despite some string of good hits. And when I meant good, I mean seriously good. Now as a big fan of them since their second album which was fantastically made, (One-X), their new album seriously made me jump up in ecstasy. But it could never beat the scream when CHALK OUTLINE first appeared on YouTube that very day. First of all, CHALK OUTLINE starts off as the strings of guitar, contemplating life under Adam Gontier and company. Let's not forget, they changed labels and I was glad it didn't affect them at all. Known for some very outstanding and great guitar-play along with the scream Adam displays, I could just enjoy this song for the next week and counting. Now the title, if you don't know, is actually a shape of the person (usually dead) so as to mark it out at the scene of the crime. The rest is history. And with that, this song is about this girl leaving this guy out of her life because of whatever that is going on. I mean, just go listen to the song before you come back. Adam's screams are worth a couple of popcorn and they are just so enjoyable. It was pretty much the signature of Three Days Grace in their sound. It was so authentic. The lyrics: 'You left me here like a chalk outline on the sidewalk waiting for the rain / To wash away, wash away / You keep coming back to the scene of the crime / But the dead can't speak / And there's nothing left to say anyway / All you left behind / Was a chalk outline'. Adam's voice just rings through my ears and the tension just ripples behind it. The electric guitar just smooths everything some wide inches. RATINGS: ORIGINALITY: 9/10 - It seems unforgettable and I have to say Adam and co. rocked this song hard. In a good way. 9 for it's superb awesomeness and I'm not even mentioning biased. SOUND: 9/10 - The electric guitar and Adam's voice are what sets itself apart from modern rock songs we have today. Seriously. Totally. LYRICS: 8/10 - Although it is like on 'repeat' mode, it is catchy and very reminiscent of their past work. OVERALL: 26/30 - All I can say is once Transit of Venus comes out, I will be sure I will get it off the shelves. Join me as well, fellow readers, as I can easily add that I will be Playing CHALK OUTLINE For Days.
